About Kirsty

"As a busy individual myself, I understand the importance of avoiding injury where possible, and rehabilitating effectively should injury occur.
I like to run (usually in circles after my kids!) so I appreciate both the physical and mental benefit of keeping active.
Stretching, guided-meditations, park run and trail running are my sanity-savers.
I value my own down-time, and manage my stress levels with exercise and by ensuring I get regular hands-on-therapy, so I relish being able to support others by offering these types of treatments alongside the sports therapy."

About Kirsty

Picture
Kirsty qualified in 2005, obtaining a Sports Massage Association (The SMA) accredited L4 Diploma in Sports Massage & Remedial Bodywork,  as well as an ITEC 'Raworth Reflexology Practitioner Diploma'.

After 3 years clinical experience, She went on to obtain a BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Degree at a leading London University.  She has since enjoyed a busy private practice in Hove, caring for a cross sectional range of patients for over 16 years.

Treatments with Kirsty therefore have a strong emphasis on clinical reasoning, and come from sound understanding of functional anatomy, as well as from a well grounded understanding of how injury can occur. However,  Kirsty is uniquely able to bring an intuitive and holistic approach to sessions, in order to offer a fully-rounded treatment suitable to all populations (not just the sporting person), allowing her to work on a physical, emotional, and energetic level, as required.  Her focus has shifted in recent years to empowering people on their own rehab journey by exercise prescription, strength & conditioning and helping people to understand their own role in their well-being.    This approach supports the hands-on sessions and obtains lasting results.  Kirsty enjoys supporting womens health with her tailored Reflexology sessions,  and Scar Work Therapy, (particularly helping women post breast cancer surgery).

With a particular interest in the biopsychosocial model applicable to pain and well-being, her focus is on empowering patients to self-manage their condition as much as possible, and to educate on the reasons for injury & dysfunction, enabling patients to find the best route to resolution for on-going well-being.

Since graduation, She has undertaken numerous post-grad certificates,  and continuously builds on her knowledge base by undertaking relevant courses, attending industry conferences, and keeping abreast with the recent research in relevant areas.  Click for full list of qualifications here.

Kirsty provided sports therapy to athletes competing at the Aquatics Centre at LONDON 2012 Olympics, and has covered seasons with Horsham & Waldran and Brighton Blues rugby teams.  She is now clinic based.

Kirsty qualified in Sharon Wheelers ScarWork in 2019 and offers treatments for the management of post-operative or post-accident/injury Scars, helping to reintegrate scar tissue for improved mobility and pliability to affected structures.  She specialises in helping women post Breast Cancer, by addressing the scars associated with treatment and recovery.

TEACHING

Kirsty lectured undergraduate students on Sports science / Therapy degree pathways, teaching on the Functional Anatomy, and the Massage modules at London Met University.

She is currently the  Anatomy & Physiology and Sports Massage Tutor with Sussex School of Natural Therapies and the Lead Sports Massage Tutor with Wilbury School of massage as well as sessional Lecturer of Sports Massage and Anatomy for Greater Brighton Metropolitan college.

What is a typical treatment with Kirsty like?

Treatments call on a combination of Soft Tissue Massage, Fascial Work, Trigger Point Therapy and Manual Therapy (joint/spinal mobilisations), as well as Kinesiology Taping, Medical Acupuncture and ScarWork when clinically appropriate.

A consultation covering medical history, and an evaluation and assessment may be required prior to / in the first session. (During Covid, the pre-treatment consultation will take place remotely).   Please wear shorts / vest tops / sports bras to feel more comfortable if an assessment will be required.

Rehabilitation exercises are also given when appropriate, to enhance recovery through exercise therapy.  Patients are given  access to an on-line platform to support them with this, and 1:1 injury management personal training session help to build suitable programs.  Programs are also built remotely, so there is not always a need for clinic visits.

Reflexology & Ayurvedic Face Massage treatments are available for stress management to everyone,  and Reflexology for womens health supports women toward, and through, the menopause.
